BUG Inspired Recipes

Ok, we’re going to be honest. Cooking isn’t our speciality at Aerex; it’s providing the best pest control services in Chicago. But when we saw some of these recipes, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share with our community. After all, bugs are our thing.

We don’t normally associate insects with food – unless they’re taking over a picnic, of course! But you would be surprised at the number of “bug inspired” foods. Aerex Pest Control, a leader in Chicago Pest Control Services, took to Pinterest to find some creepy crawly (but delicious!) eats.

Dirt Cups
Ah, the infamous dirt cup. We’re sure you’ve made a few of these in your day. They are pretty popular amongst elementary school classrooms. The recipe is simple: simply prepare the pudding, stir in whipped topping, top with cookie crumbs and worms.

  • 1 package instant chocolate pudding
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tub whipped topping
  • 15 chocolate sandwich cookies (crushed)
  • GUMMY WORMS!

Caterpillar Kabobs
This is SO easy. Simply take a Kabob holder (steel or wood) and slide on red or green grapes. Using a combination of red and green grapes can give it a funky twist. A dot of frosting is a simple solution for creating caterpillar eyes.

Bug Juice
This colorful drink is the perfect addition to any party – whether for adults or kids. A combination of juices and sodas make it an absolute hit! Mix together grape and raspberry apple juice. Then, fill up an ice cube tray with the mixture, adding 1 blueberry to each compartment. Add the soda to the remaining juice, and drop in the cubes.

  • 32 ounces grape juice
  • 32 ounces raspberry apple juice
  • 16 ounces lemon-lime soda
  • blueberries

Ladybug Appetizers
Using crackers, cheese spread, tomatoes and olives, these appetizers are perfect for any outdoor gathering. Simply spread the cheese on the cracker, and place quartered tomato chunks on top (these will be the wings). Add a black olive for the head, with the pit facing up. Dot the wings with black icing.
Tip: for even more authenticity, use chive pieces for antennas!
