How to Catch Insects: 4 Clever Tricks

dead bugThe weather is ideal for insects to enter the indoors this time of the year. That’s why you need to start to think about a proper pest control before the temperatures drop. Here are some clever tricks you need to know if you want to get rid of some in the process.

Sticky paste on paper…

Insects are attracted to sweet food and to catch them, you need to tempt them. Make a paste of sugar, corn syrup, and water by heating it together. Place the mixture on a piece of paper or a plastic. These traps are ideal for crawling and flying insects. You can also pour this sticky liquid in a bottle and hang it in high traffic area for bugs. Make sure to keep your sticky traps away from your pets and children.

Catch insects with a soft drink bottle…

If you have problems with flying insects like hornets and wasps, you should try this trick. Cut off the top of a two-liter soda bottle with a sharp knife. Invert the tops and place it inside the bottle and remove the cap. Use duct tape to seal the top edge of the bottle. The final step is to sprinkle some sugar into the bottom through the spout and add some water as well. Place this trap in a spot where you have seen insects. You can use this method either indoors or outdoors.

Duct tape trap…

Place a strip of duct tape sticky side up and just wait for insects to get trapped. You should place this trap close to the windows and doors to prevent them from entering inside.

When to call a professional…

You may be able to catch a couple of insects by yourself with these methods. Other natural remedies and preventative methods may work if there are very few insects in your home. However, for larger problems, DIY methods are rarely effective at all. If you are seeing many insects inside your home, that is one of the first signs of an infestation. At that point, it’s too late for any preventative or DIY pest control methods to be effective. If this is the case, it’s best to contact a pest control professional who can treat the problem and eliminate it entirely and quickly.
